Smartphones: What the future holds?

Starting from a huge brick like device with big antennas gradually progressing to non-antennas, snake playing devices to today, a gadget that act as your navigators, communicators, translators, advisers and much more. Mobile phone technology has evolved drastically in 2 decades and it’s something that we can’t live without. If we leave our house and realize that our mobile phone has been left inside, all hell breaks loose! That’s the kind of impact our phones have in our life. Mobile data has moved on from 1G to 4G and there’s no end in sight. 4G mobiles are furiously fast, promising 100 Mbps download speed and that’s not it, there are speculation of ‘5G’ releasing in the coming years, we can only imagine how fast that would be. Similarly, we can only guess how advanced mobile phone technology will be in the coming years. We have put down 4 things that we expect from future smartphones.

  • Complete take over by Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)

AR and VR are used in standalone headsets, Facebook’s Oculus Rift, Microsoft’s HoloLens and Google’s Cardboard, but they haven’t been installed in smartphones as of yet. AR is the future many have been waiting for, imagine just pointing your smartphone’s camera to a place and it will display the location, nearby places, directions of petrol stations and ATMs in that area and much more.

  • Seamless Voice integration

Voice integration is alive in today’s smartphones too, but the cultural gap hinders the process. The AI is unable to understand your command because the accent varies. In future smartphones we would like to see these cultural barriers removed and the AI understanding the language no matter what the accent. This means that we can set reminders for everything, ranging from everyday tasks to birthdays and anniversaries, without the need of physically inputting them in your phone.

  • Battery Improvement

Well who doesn’t wants this to happen, even thoughbatteries have improved lately, consumers still find it hard to use their phone on a single charge the entire day. There are endless things that you can do in a smartphone but battery restrictions limit their abilities. A future smartphone must have an amazing battery life that lasts 2-3 days on a single charge even after heavy usage.

  • Modular phones

Imagine upgrading your mobile phone’s chip, RAM and so on instead of purchasing a new phone altogether. Modular phones will be an amazing addition to the mobile market as the people will have the ability to upgrade their devices or at least some part of it like personal computers and laptops.

This is what we have in mind regarding the future of smartphones, obviously it can be much better than this in terms of advancement and something really outstanding can pop up!
