GET THE LATEST ON ALL THINGS 5G

The fifth generation of wireless technology is here. Introducing 5G; a faster, stronger connection for our wireless devices. Let’s have a look into what this means for our us.

WHY DO WE NEED 5G?

5G uses higher frequencies and a network of shorter range antennas to provide intense coverage in public areas. In theory, we need 5G to support the many uses of connectivity that until now seemed like science fiction. Self-driving cars will use 5G among other technologies to navigate. 5G will be necessary for augmented reality, the semi-virtual reality shown through goggles while you’re working. Imagine working on your car and having the how-to video stream in front of your eyes. You’ll also be able to live-stream what you’re working on and consult with a virtual assistant, whether it’s an AI or a mechanic you’re paying by the minute for their advice. All of these applications depend on high speed wireless internet connections that 4G can’t deliver.

WHAT DOES 5G MEAN FOR INTERNET BROWSING?

5G will allow us to connect far more people with high speed internet. Users will be able to connect to the internet while their friends are streaming their conversation live via Periscope. 5G will support all of these simultaneous, data intensive connections at once. You’ll be able to stream media while simultaneously broadcasting. You’ll able to talk to friends via a video chat while pulling up online location-based ads to find dinner. You’ll be able to watch a movie in real time instead of downloading it to a device. There will be near immediate loading of media rich websites. You’ll no longer have to worry about a shopping cart purchase timing out before you can get the checkout button to load.

WHAT HAPPENS TO OLDER PHONES?

5G will not render old phones obsolete. Your 4G phone will continue to work, but you’ll experience fewer interruptions when streaming video or audio. 3G phones will become harder to operate, because 4G becomes the new minimum standard. You’ll probably be able to text and send photos with them, but their ability to access the new high-density media will leave them struggling to function.
