Great Gifts for the Techie

Have a tech geek on your gift shopping list? Not to fear, we’ve got a list of some of the latest and greatest on the market when it comes to the gadgets and gizmos, so you can help cross off everything on your gearhead’s wish list.

Drones

The tech market is pretty heavy with drones these days, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going anywhere anytime soon. It also seems a lot of people would love to have one, but wouldn’t necessarily buy one for themselves… so it makes for a pretty awesome gift idea. Drones run the gamut in terms of pricing and capability, so do your research and find one that suits their lifestyle and your budget.

Fitbit AltaHR

This is the gadget that was designed with both gearheads and fitness gurus alike. Tracking steps, calories, and distance, the Fitbit AltaHR’s SmartTrack technology has Auto Exercise Recognition, so it can automatically sense when you’re getting ready to start a sweat session. The AltaHR model also tracks your sleep patterns using a heart rate monitor and sends friendly exercise reminders—useful for those of us who need an extra nudge. Through the call, text and calendar alert function, this little guy also lets you receive both phone calls and texts; if you happen to be mid-run you don’t have to worry about toting your phone or missing an important message. All in all, the AltaHR is a fitness coach, health professional, and assistant all rolled into one, which I’d say is tech gift win.

Bose SoundLink Revolve

The Bose SoundLink Revolve portable speaker offers 360 sound wherever it goes, and because features a 12-hour battery life, the party doesn’t have to stop short.  The Revolve is also Siri and Google Now voice accessible while the Bose Connect app makes it a cinch to switch devices, allowing all the want-to-be DJs in the room to have a chance to show off what they got. Meanwhile, the multi-function button lets anyone make calls and send text messages… pizza anyone?

A Waterproof Watch

Many techies enjoy using their new gadgets out in the Great Big Open. If you’re looking for something tech-savvy for the nature lover, stick to the classics. A waterproof watch does double-duty; modern styles offer distinction while new technology makes these little gadgets more durable than ever. Browse timepieces from MVMT; they offer a variety of waterproof watches that can be customized with specialized watch bands for both men and women.

LeEco Smart Bike

Debuting two smart bikes at CES this year—one mountain bike, one road bike—LeEco bikes received some undeniably high praise. Both feature a four-inch touchscreen on the handlebars for convenient turn-by-turn navigation, as well as a compass, a speedometer and a barometer. You can also stream music through the display, whether you’re online or not. LeEco smart bikes also allow riders to communicate with others via a walkie talkie system while the LeEco app keeps track of fitness goals and progress, which you can share with friends at just the touch of a button. Keep your eyes peeled, these guys will hit the market during the second half of 2017, just in time for the holidays.

Amazon Echo Dot

Access your favorite playlist from anywhere in your home with the Echo Dot voice-controlled system. Through its voice activation capabilities, the Amazon Echo Dot also allows you to have remote control of most other electric devices throughout your home. Need to order an Uber ride or call in takeout from your favorite Thai spot? No problem. Using the Alexa app on a smartphone or tablet the Echo Dot easily turns any space into a smart-activated hub.
