Blogging Vs Freelancing–Which is Best Career Option?

There is a debate going on the internet, which one of these two is the best online career option, blogging or freelancing?

Well there is not any straight answer to it. Things are very complicated and I have to write an entire article arguing advantages and disadvantages of the both.

Few things must be clear to you.

First one is both blogging and freelancing are absolutely two different things.

People try to confuse that both of them are same and there is not any substantial difference. Well they are absolutely wrong.

In the following paragraphs I will be debating pros and cons of both and finally let you choose anyone of them.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Blogging

Let us start with blogging.

Pros

Money You Make

The amount of money that you can make with blogging is almost unlimited.

There are bloggers who make just $100 per month and then there are who make over $10,000 per month.

There are also bloggers who are making $100,000 per month.

So there is no limit. It depends upon how serious you are.

On Your Own

You as a blogger don’t have to depend upon various hirers because blogging is not like freelancing.

You just have to depend upon one or two companies. You don’t have to look out for a new hirer every month.

You are independent and on your own.

Trusted Partners

Companies that pay you are very well known and trusted by bloggers all over the world.

These companies are there for decades now and they pay you regularly month after month.

Cons

Highly Competitive and Needs a lot of skill

You can definitely make $1 million+ in a year but do that you have to work very hard.

Blogging is not for everyone. You need to have lot of skills like writing skills, marketing skills, technical knowledge, patience etc.

To make it easy I would say blogging is a highly while collar job.

Takes Time to Make Some Money

In fact earning first $100 dollar could take months. In order to earn a decent income you have to work for years.

Blogging is quite competitive because of Google’s new policy for its search engine.

You have to learn SEO before you are able to rank high on Google search result.

9 out of 10 fail

Finally to be honest 9 out of 10 bloggers just give up.

They fail because they lack ambition, patience and perseverance.

Blogging is not quick money.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Freelancing

Pros

If  You Can Write You Can Make Money

Freelancing jobs are all about writing. However most of the writers are ghost writers.

If they can write in simple English without any grammatical errors then they can survive.

Yes they have to do some research but that is easy.

You Get Paid Next Month

In blogging, you have to work hard for at least 4 to 6 months before you receive your first pay check.

However in freelance writing you will get paid the next month. You don’t have to wait long for your first pay check.

You won’t have to wait long for your first pay check, although you will need to negotiate what you get paid.

Finding a Freelancing Job is Very Easy

You can easily find a freelancing job on the Internet. There are few trusted freelancing sites that offer jobs for freelancers.

They are genuine and trusted by freelancers around the world.

Cons

Money You Make is Very Less

Freelance writing does not pay you much. The money you make is very decent with no or very little growth opportunity.

So you will be making same amount of money after 5 years since you started working as a freelancer.

Job is Not Fixed and Have to Look out for a New Hirer Every Month

You have to look out for projects every month. If you have completed your projected then you have to look out for a new hirer who is offering projects.

So you don’t work for one particular company.

Less Growth Opportunity, You Learn Less

Future prospects are not very great. If you are ok with steady income then freelance jobs are good for you.

Otherwise it is very difficult because growth opportunity or rise in income is highly unlikely.

Now you have read the pros and cons of blogging and freelancing. It is important to learn fundamental differences between these two.

Advantage of Blogging Over Freelancing

Money and Growth Opportunity

If you are an ambitious guy and want to do something big then blogging is for you.

Freelancing is for stay at home moms, retirees etc.

If you want to buy a home and a car then you have to choose blogging. Blogging gives you an opportunity to grow.

It really does not matter how small of a blogger you are because there is always an opportunity to grow in this line.

However with Freelancing the income is going to remain steady for years.

This is the advantage of blogging over freelancing jobs.

Advantage of Freelancing Over Blogging

Easy to Get Started and Quick Money

As I said earlier blogging is not for everyone. We agree that there is a great potential in blogging but you need a lot of talent and skills to succeed.

Freelancing jobs can be an alternative. If you know to write then you can start writing for others.

It does not take any effort to make money with freelance writing. If you are a mom or a retiree then you can start earning the next month.

You can easily make a decent living with freelancing jobs.

The time and effort required for freelancing jobs is very less compared to blogging.

Which is the Best Career Option?

After reading the entire article time has come to choose anyone of these.

We debated all aspects of blogging and freelancing. We also did a comparative analysis between these two.

I am sure this will help you to choose a right career.

If you want to do more and ready to accept challenges then go for blogging. You have to make your own road.

Blogging is a vast field. You have to learn SEO if you want to rank high on Google.

If you are willing to learn something new daily and ready to adapt yourself with changes then blogging is for you.

However if you are not sure that you can do all these things like SEO or learning something new about a technology then go for freelancing.

There is no risk and the job is also easy. You have to do basic research while writing but otherwise the job is pretty simple.

The income will be steady with marginal increment in following years.

So the final decision I leave it to you.
